With the New Berlingo making its debut from 15 May 2008, the old model is renamed Berlingo First in some markets

BERLINGO FIRST

An LCV and a hatchback

The Berlingo accounts for half of Citroën's LCV sales in Europe. It was Europe's second most popular LCV in 2007. Almost 800,000 units have been sold since its launch.
The Berlingo is thus a key component of Citroën’s worldwide development strategy. It logically keeps its place in the current range under the name of Berlingo First, with a plain finish designed to meet customer needs and expand the Marque's offering.
First launched in 1996, the Berlingo was the first small van designed specifically as such, with a seamlessly integrated load area. It was also the first LCV to incorporate a range of design, comfort and handling features previously reserved for passenger vehicles.

Generous dimensions and functions

Berlingo First is 4.14m long and 1.72m wide. It features:

  • a load volume of 3 m3;
  • a payload of 600 or 800 kg depending on the country of sale.

It can also carry loads measuring up to 1.70 m in length, or even 2.10 m with the multifunction passenger seat. A sliding side door is available on all versions for easy access to the load area.

Styled to express professional drive

With the Berlingo First, Citroën shows that it is possible for a commercial vehicle to combine excellent functional qualities – loading volume and payload, robust strength and economy – with attractive styling.

With its generous volumes and taut lines, the Berlingo First expresses power and durability. Distinctive features include the chunky side mouldings, wraparound bumper and high-mounted headlamps to avoid minor impacts.

A functional and comfortable cabin

The interior of the Berlingo First is similar to that of a passenger vehicle, with its hatchback-style driving position and wide range of equipment. It features variable power steering as standard, along with optional air conditioning, CD audio system and cruise-control/speed limiter system to make life easier for users.

The Pack Plus rounds out the range of equipment available. It includes central locking, plip control, power defrosting rearview mirrors and power window lifts.

To assist drivers in their professional activities, Berlingo First is available with a multifunction passenger seat. This seat provides 100 litres of stowage capacity under the cushion – hidden from prying eyes – and it can also be turned into a desktop by folding the backrest.

Reinforced safety

The Berlingo First can be fitted with driver and passenger airbags as well as ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. To carry loads safely, the load area is fitted with six lashing hooks. It also features a number of bulkheads, including a mid-height bulkhead with meshing.

To protect loads from theft, the Berlingo First includes a feature that locks doors automatically when central locking is fitted (Pack Plus).

To cope with a full range of – sometimes extreme – uses, the Berlingo First can be fitted with offroad suspension, raised by 15 mm, and a skid plate. In France, the Berlingo First features this suspension as standard.

Well matched engines

Depending on the country of sale, the Berlingo First ships with a choice of two engines: one diesel (HDi 75) and one petrol (1.4i). These proven engines combine economy with low environmental impact. The HDi engine, for example, consumes 5.4 l/100 km over a combined cycle for 143 g/km of CO2.

In some countries, the Berlingo First 1.4i is available in a dual-fuel petrol/CNG version. This version respects the environment (CO2 emissions reduced by 18%) while cutting running costs, since the CNG tank increases the vehicle's operating range by around 300 km. With this CNG engine, the Berlingo First qualifies for Citroën's Airdream® eco-label.
