SAFETY, A VITAL CONCERN Minivan
and combi van users are increasingly concerned about
safety.
In response to that concern, the Jumpy’s architecture
and safety and comfort features have been
significantly upgraded.
These enhancements give the Jumpy superior standing in
its market in
terms of road manners, occupant protection and
loading.
First-class dynamic qualities The
Jumpy’s running gear has been optimised to provide
constant stability,
responsiveness, steering precision and vehicle movement
control,
regardless of load conditions.
The front suspension is of the
McPherson wishbone type with an anti-roll bar. This
choice improves
roadholding, driving comfort and reduces wear on tyres.
The rear axle has a semi-flexible transverse beam with
an offset
Panhard bar, which makes the Jumpy extremely
comfortable, safe and
dynamic, even during heavy loads and intensive use.
Pneumatic
suspension, optional on all models, guarantees optimal
road manners
regardless of load.
The new Jumpy has two kinds of power steering, depending
on the engine.
The HDi 90 engine comes with variable “decreasing-flow”
power steering.
The other engines have electro-hydraulic steering whose
power depends
on the speed of the vehicle and steering wheel rotation.
As well as
making driving pleasurable, electro-hydraulic steering
reduces fuel
consumption.
The new Jumpy has 16’’ wheels for all the vehicles
except the 1,000 kg short van version (L1H1) with an HDi
90 engine.
The Jumpy’s braking system is sized to optimise
reliability, efficiency
and endurance. It features front and rear disc brakes
(except on the
1,000 kg short van version (L1H1) with an HDi 90 engine,
which has rear
drum brakes).
The Jumpy has ABS with EBS fitted as standard, and ESP
as an option in
some countries. ESP also includes an anti-rollover
function.

Even better protection The
Jumpy has all the essential qualities in terms of
occupant protection
and impact resistance. The passenger area has been
resized for extra
strength and optimal impact energy distribution.
The new Jumpy offers a high degree of protection with:
- a reinforced cantrail line,
- a front bumper with an integrated metal beam and
impact absorbers,
- a reinforced interface between the cradle and the
body,
- optimised sizing of the front axles,
- an efficient system to attach the engine to the
cradle,
- a steering column that retracts over 80 mm.
The front seatbelts feature pyrotechnic pretensioners
and force
limiters that limit physical constraints in the event of
impact. They
are also height-adjustable so that all users can drive
the Jumpy in
comfort. The driver’s seat is also fitted as standard
with a seatbelt
warning system. A warning light, followed by an alarm,
warns the driver
if he/she has forgotten to fasten his/her seatbelt.
On the combi versions, the side seats in rows 2 and 3 at
the rear have
Isofix anchor points, which allow child seats to be
fitted.
Passengers also reap the benefits of the new Jumpy’s
upgrades in terms
of passive safety. A total of six airbags are available:
a driver’s
airbag as standard and an optional front passenger
airbag, side airbags
and curtain airbags.
Special attention has been paid to anti-break-in and
anti-theft
devices. Separate locking of the front and rear areas is
one example.
The ability to use the loading area while the cabin is
locked offers
Jumpy users security and peace of mind.
The new Jumpy also features an engine immobiliser and
transponder as standard.
A perimetric alarm and tow-away protection are optional.
To make it
easier to find a stolen vehicle, the chassis number is
printed at the
bottom of the windscreen. The Jumpy has scored
Thatcham’s top five-star
rating.
