Standing among the cars was an extraordinary experience. The
handsome X7 C5 mingled with the previous generation model, with a
couple of Xantia models (including an Activa) joined by an early BX GT
and later 16v model. I wanted a good showing of estates and so
immaculate D Safari and CX estates were flanked by the Xantia, BX and
my own C5 estate, with Anthony Parkes’ shabby but outstandingly
reliable GS providing evidence of the car’s ability to act as an
extremely tough and effective workhorse. Goosebumps everywhere, when
the C6 and XM arrived but I had to sit down when I clapped eyes on
those CXs. It was – and always will be – my favourite Citroen! The
black GTi Turbo 2 which turned up was once owned by Geoff Matthews -
the designer responsible for the CX restyle of 1985.
